Yonge TOmorrow Initiative

In the heart of downtown Toronto, the Yonge TOmorrow project aimed to reimagine Yonge Street to better serve pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users. LURA Consulting played a pivotal role by engaging over 7,400 participants through interactive surveys and consultations. This extensive public input guided the project’s vision, ensuring that the redevelopment plans resonated with community needs.

Multi-Tenant Housing Regulations

Addressing the complexities of multi-tenant (rooming) houses, LURA facilitated a comprehensive engagement process for the City of Toronto. Through virtual meetings and surveys, they gathered feedback from over 1,000 residents, capturing diverse viewpoints on proposed regulatory frameworks. This inclusive approach highlighted concerns and suggestions, influencing policies to ensure safe and affordable housing options across the city.

Danforth Avenue Planning Study

To guide future developments along Danforth Avenue, LURA organized community consultation meetings, bringing together residents, stakeholders, and city officials. These sessions provided platforms for discussing urban design, built form analysis, and public amenities, ensuring that the area’s evolution reflects local character and community aspirations.

The Significance of Community Engagement in Urban Planning

Engaging communities in urban planning processes leads to developments that are more attuned to local needs, fostering a sense of ownership and acceptance among residents. LURA Consulting’s projects demonstrate that when residents are active participants in shaping their environments, the results are more sustainable, inclusive, and reflective of the city’s diverse fabric.  As Toronto continues to evolve, the role of community engagement remains paramount. LURA dedicates its mandate to public consultation services that can bridge gaps between policymakers and the public, ensuring that urban development is a collaborative and inclusive endeavor.
